It’s oh so tempting to crawl under the covers after a long night. I can admit to breaking the number one rule of skincare every now and then, it can’t be that big of a deal, right? Wrong.
I looked up exactly what happens to your skin when you sleep in makeup and the info was enough to gross me out and definitely, DEFINITELY help crush my bad habits. And now i realise why my skin can be so shitty sometimes – this whole time i was blaming everything else – mainly sugar haha – but its my bad habits!
Your skin renews itself at night and as you can expect, makeup pretty much ruins the process completely and clogs it allll up. If our foundation and everything else we layer, has been on all day, so has the dust and pollutants it attracts. Dirt and bacteria get trapped in pores, then comes, you guessed it— breakouts and black heads!
Lightweight makeup can still cause damage to your skin. Even if your makeup routine consists of only a tinted moisturizer or BB cream and a little mascara, it still needs to be washed away before bed. I usually wear a bb cream, concealer and highlight on my face Monday to Friday unless i have an event or i’m shooting – No exceptions
THE NOT SO OBVIOUS
Left on mascara causes eyelash breaking, shedding, and styes. Sleeping in foundation can also interrupt your skin’s processes for building collagen, it can cause wrinkles, dullness, and premature ageing. Oh and if that wasn’t enough, if you’re not cleansing your skin, dead skin cells are just sitting on the surface, clogging your pores, causing inflammation, and more breakouts and just making you look and FEEL very MEH.
GROSSED OUT YET?
Keep this info in mind the next time you’re tempted to crawl under the covers with a full face of makeup. Makeup wipes alone won’t do the job, this is what i USED to use. SO what do I use at night and should we re do our whole morning skin regime before bed? Well i thought at least cleanse and mositurise until i spoke to various skin pro’s – generally during a facial and apparently thats not the case.
For me – I always tend to have a oily and congested T ZONE which means i shouln’t be clogging my skin with moisturiser at night, as it needs a chance to breath.
So i use the below two steps every night before bed. THIS IS IT – obviously after cleaning my makeup off. And i swear ladies, this is what is keeping my skin clear.
I found these Nip and Fab pads at my local drug store and i’ve also used the Garnier version which are also great. For my Australian readers, i got these in LA so i’m really hoping we have these at home, as i’m back in 4 weeks!
I use one in the morning and at night. They are amazing!
And then i use this IS CLINIC ‘ACTIVE SERUM’, which i’m unsure 100% what it is, but my skin angel who does my facial at Blue Medi Spa, recommended it and its amazing! At first i was dubious its not cheap for such a little bottle. But i’ve been using it nightly for the last 2 months and theres still a ton left and i haven’t needed a facial since – so i’m swearing by it!
Anyway let me know what you think or if you have any thing to add to this – or share your story below in the comments babe!
AS always …
