So, today i was thinking about what to write about and what you guys would find interesting to know and then i thought about instagram and the fun part. The filters! I’m going to show you my all time favourite filters that I use religiously to edit my pictures ♡. So the way in which i’ll lay it out is like this: the original picture will be on the left, the final Instagram post on the right & the name of the apps and filters I used in the text underneath. The number in the brackets (e.g. +7) refers to the intensity of the filter.
Ok so i’m going to take you through 3 different types of images and different filter and editing apps that i use. But just so you know, on absolutely every photo i post on insta, i always do the following in the editor in Instagram (you know where you pick the instagram filter and ‘EDIT’ section)
FADE – in between +15-25 depending on how it looks, and if the shot is iphone or SLR camera.
LUX – i usually go to +50 but some images it doesn’t look quite right, so i’ll use +25 in that instance.
STRUCTURE – if i’ve taken the photo on my iphone i’ll always structure it to +14 – 20.
Sharpen – Again if its an iphone shot i’ll sharpen the image to about +12-18.
Saturation – Generally my images that are not shot in the sun (so the shadows, alot of my fashion images on walls for example) i’ll saturate to +6. NEVER more than +8.
OK lets go ….

With this head shot I decided to go for black&white – just because b&w is timeless, its super strong and i find it very mysterious in a whimsical way. They also stand out from the normal Instagram Feed, which i think is eye catching, getting peoples attention and really makes them LOOK at whats going on in the picture, rather than just scrolling constantly. But not every picture looks good in black&white, you need to try and see which pictures work and which don’t. I rarely do it, so choose and choose well. I often use the filter „B5“ by VSCO Cam because it’s pretty dark, has a lot of contrasts and doesn’t make the picture look too flat which can happen when removing colour.

This selfie speaks for all selfies I guess. I ALWAYS use ‘Aden“ by Instagram for my selfie’s. ‘GLEN” in ‘afterlight’ is amazing too! ‘Afterlight’ is new for me so i’m still trying to figure it out and test what i like! It softens the skin, makes the picture warmer but not in an orange tone and colours the shadows in a purple/pinkish tone. Overall its just throws a soft and feminine vibe which i love. But it does wash out the colour a little, which is why I add some saturation afterwards (in instagram filters also). Never add too much saturation or you will look orange, 5-7% max for me angels.

Ok so i just recently purchased more filters from the app ‘VSCO CAM’ and im loving test them out at the beach and in different natural light and direct sunslight. For this image i used ‘P5’ but only +6. As you can see the image was quite warm, and far too golden. This filter made it nice and icey but still feminine, I love the whole ‘P’ range in the app! But it always depends on the lighting.
Anyway i know this is quite a jovial blog. But i hope you find it useful! Im trying to update my blog and integrate a comment, like and share section at the bottom of each post. That way you can ask questions, let me know what you and don’t like. Fingers crossed i get it sorted soon!
